The BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard today officially launch the public vote that will determine the winners of the five genre awards - Alternative/Rock Act, Dance Act, Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act, Pop Act, R&B Act. From midday GMT today (Thursday 1st February), fans all over the world can cast their votes exclusively through Instagram, with the vote closing on Thursday 15th February at 6pm.

There are two ways for fans to register their vote. Either they head to the official BRITs Instagram account (@BRITs), and comment on the category Reel of their choice (which will be posted as the vote opens at midday), or the pinned post with the unique hashtag for their favourite artist. Or fans can get creative and make their own Reel, which must include in the caption, a @BRITs tag, and the unique hashtag of their favourite artist in order for the vote to be counted.

Fans can perform each of these actions once for each artist, per category, per day, with a comment counting for one vote, creating a Reel will count for five votes, putting the power into fans hands, exclusively with Instagram.

More information on voting, including full terms and conditions, can be found on the BRITs website:  www.brits.co.uk/vote

For the first time ever, BRITs is also taking over the Outernet complex at Tottenham Court Road. Throughout the voting period, and kicking off with a takeover of the complex tomorrow (Friday 2nd February) from 12-2pm, the vote will be promoted across Outernet’s state of the art screens, with fans given the opportunity to take photos and share Reels with their favourite artists featuring throughout the complex.

Each of the genre categories are promoted by major UK radio stations, who will be promoting the vote on air and across social media during the period. Alternative/Rock Act is promoted by Radio X, Dance Act is promoted by Capital Dance, Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act is promoted by KISS Fresh, Pop Act is promoted by Hits Radio and R&B Act is promoted by Capital Xtra.

Sebastian Battista Simone, VP Community & Content, Warner Records & Parlophone,  and Co-chair of the BRITs Digital Committee says: Instagram Reels are having more impact than ever and we're thrilled to be partnering with Meta for The BRIT Awards public vote categories. Fans will be able to support their favourite artists by engaging with content and creating it themselves - we hope it brings out competitive fans and celebrates artists with the most active communities. It's great to see Instagram being the first partner to bring artist amplification opportunities to the public vote, creating more exposure than ever for the nominations.”

Giuseppe De Cristofano, BRIT Awards Director of Digital and Co-chair of the BRITs Digital Committee says: “We are really excited to be working closely with Instagram to offer music fans the chance to vote for their favourite artists and determine the winners of the genre categories. Our goal as BRITs is to help artists to reach and connect with music fans and this partnership with Instagram allows us to do that.”

Megan West, Director of Music Label Partnerships at Meta said “We’re thrilled to be The BRIT Awards official Voting Partner. We know music fans are connecting on Instagram over their love of music. We’re excited to see them rally around their favourite artists by using Reels to vote in the all important genre categories.’

For the first time, The BRITs will be taking over the iconic Outernet screens to drive participation with their public vote, representing an exciting evolution in our partnership. Our state-of-the-art screens will showcase the voting process, and fans will be able to capture moments and share Reels featuring their favourite artists, creating innovative ways to show their support. As the most visited cultural destination in the UK we hope to drive significant engagement and votes, and we can't wait to see the enthusiasm and creativity music fans will bring to this unique experience.”
